Foundation
You will start with the easy foundation dc. With a tail of 40 cm, make a slip knot. Holding tail in front, put tailyarn over hook from front to back, then draw up a loop and plt both loops on hook Continue for 33.
Round 1
Ch1. Place SM into this chain. dc into second stitch from hook. Insert hook into vertical Bar of stitch just completed, then into next stitch , pull up a loop and pull thru all three loops. Continue until you reach SM. The stitch marker is in the chain. So you will finish the row by going thru vertical bar of stitch just completed and then Thru the Stitch (not ch where SM is). It should be just to left of SM. Pick up stitch and slip it thru loops on hook. Remove SM.
Round 2
Turn work so that yarn is towards you. Ch1. Place SM in ch. You will now be completing a reverse DC. Insert hook from behind work. Draw up a loop. And pull thru two loops. Yo pull thru 2. ( very important that first stitch is NOt directly below the chain). Now start herringbone stitch. Bend work forward and find the vertical Bar from Previous stitch. Insert from behind into next Stitch. Draw up a loop from front pulling thru to back to pull thru three loops.
Continue around using the reverse Herringbone stitch. Join at stitch that SM came out of ( so not the ch that the sm is in but just to the left.) this is a join so go under vertical bar then under that stitch just mentioned, pull up a loop and pull thru all three loops.
When you have completed 32 rows and work messures 19 cm, finish at wrong side, ch1 and complete herringbone stitch across until you are at the midpoint of the other side. Ch1 and turn to complete right side row.
Continue making 14 single rows until flap measures 9 cm.
Slst across row.
Then Slst back across in third loop ( identified in back of work)
Continue to Slst up the side, choosing about two stitches per row, and continue to Slst across front top lip of bag using the existing stitches. Finally, Slst down last side of lip again choosing about 2 stitches per row. Weave in ends.
Handles
The handle is made using the Romanian chord technique. Leaving a long tail (35cm), ch2. Insert hook under single vertical bar. Complete dc. Turn and now insert under the dc’s two vertical bars. Dc. Continue this process of slowing turning and making dc until work measures 60 cm.
